Wowza

I've had occasion to mention the mass of floating garbage in the Pacific Ocean to some friends and family (which, granted, is mostly composed of teeny, tiny, nearly invisible pieces of plastic).

But, via Pharyngula, this collection of images is stunning. And I don't mean stunning in a good way. It's fucking sad. It's pictures of decomposing albatross chicks who had been fed plastic garbage by their parents, that scavenge the ocean thinking bits of colorful plastic floating on the surface is food for their babies. Wrong. Death by toxicity, choking, or starvation.
